Bull sharks, lemon sharks, blacktip sharks, and spinner
sharks are the most common species of large sharks in the Florida
Keys and Florida Bay. These are typically a shallow water predator
that hunts deep flats and adjacent channels. Generally we catch
specimens ranging in weights between twenty and one hundred fifty
pounds. The real big ones just do not lose a fight to a light tackle
angler probably due to the fact that most fishermen are not going
to play a fish for several hours. The small ones, below twenty pounds,
are great sport fish on eight pound tackle. Twenty pound test line
is my choice for the larger ones.
Sharks will stalk the flats all year long and only
leave the shallows on sharp temperature drops. Spinner sharks and
blacktips are both very active, fast moving fish commonly weighing
less than one hundred pounds. They will jump high and spin when
hooked and fight hard to the end. They school offshore and move
inshore during the spring and summer months to feed and reproduce.
Bull sharks are very strong aggressive fish capable of reaching
seven hundred pounds. The typical bull we land with twenty pound
test line is between eighty and one hundred pounds. Call me and
ask about my guarantee on special shark charters.
